Two basketball stars and leaders: MaKayla Daniels, a Senior at Frederick High School and Collin Schlee a Senior at Oakdale High School.
MaKayla Daniels:
Voted Ms. Maryland Basketball for 2018-19 by the Maryland Basketball Coaches Association after leading her team to 3 consecutive State 3A Championships.
Named to the Girls All State first team by the Coaches Association.
Led Frederick to 3 state championships and an overall record of 78-7 for those three seasons. She led the Cadets to 4 Region 3A titles.
MaKayla averaged 21.4 points per game and 2.9 assists per game for the 2018-19 season.
MaKayla was a varsity starter for four years. Her Freshman year Frederick did not quite win a state championship but made the State Semifinals. With MaKayla playing, Frederick has won 49 consecutive home games!
Collin Schlee:
Voted to the Boys All State first Team by the Maryland Basketball Coaches Association.
As a Varsity starter a Collin Schlee led team has never lost on Oakdale’s home court. The Bears have a 44 game home winning streak.
Collin scored a rare season “double-double” for 2018-19 averaging 19.1 points a game and 10.4 rebounds a game. He also averaged 4.3 assists per game. This year he led the Bears to a 23-4 record, the 2A Region crown and the state semifinals for the second year in a row.
Collin’s 1401 career points are second in Oakdale HS History.
These two athletes will be playing big time college sports next season: MaKayla Daniels will attend the University of Arkansas on a Basketball Scholarship and two sport star Collin Schlee will play football at Kent State on a Scholarship.
MaKayla was coached all four years at Frederick by Ashley Bush.
Collin was coached this season by Brandon Long and his previous two varsity seasons, at Oakdale, by Terry Connolly.
