Customers can receive rebates for turning in old small appliances.
Williamsport, Md (KM) A small appliance recycling event is taking place this coming Saturday in Frederick. Potomac Edison is sponsoring the event on Saturday, June 5th from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Home Depot parking lot on McCain Drive. Spokesman Will Singer says customers can drop off old, operable and not so energy efficient room air conditioners, dehumidifiers and mini-refrigerators. Customers could receive a $25 rebate for every appliance they drop off.
Singer says it wil be a drive-through event. “They’ll have their appliances in the trunk of their car or the rear of their vehicle,”: he says. “Our staff will be wearing masks and other protective equipment to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
Customers will not need to get out of their vehicle as the staff will remover the appliances from their cars’ trunks, or the beds of their pickup trucks. All customers will receive a form to fil out so their rebate will be mailed to them within four weeks.
Singer also says customers are limited to three appliances to drop off with an individual rebate total of $75,
These old appliances will be recycled. “We work with a vendor called ARCA. They responsibly recycle those appliances that are no longer in use, instead of the customers throwing it away or whatever the case may be,” says Singer. “They responsibly recycle in a way that is beneficial to environment, and we help the customers out that way.”
In the end, says Singer, there are advantages to getting rid of old and not so energy efficient appliances. “The good thing about getting rid of these things and replacing them with a new one or getting rid of an appliance that you’re no longer using, you’ll be able to replace it with something more efficient if you choose to,” he says.
