Long Shots expected to open a ‘small temporary ‘ sports book next month
Frederick, Md. (KM) – Fans of sports betting in Frederick County won’t have to travel too far in the near future to place wagers on their favorite sports teams. The owner of Long Shots, Alyce Cohen, says she signed an agreement with BetFred which will be operating the sports betting service. BetFred recently received its license from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission.
“We have even more exciting news there as we plan to launch early September,” says Cohen. “We are going to be launching a small temporary book for our sports enthusiasts to come and place some bets while we’re building out the larger permanent space. And that permanent space will be open before the Superbowl.”
Cohen says that “larger permanent space” will have many exciting features. “We’re building a 90-foot TV wall and 8,000-square-foot sports book. It is going to be phenomenal. It’s going to be an indoor sports enthusiasts dream come true,” she says.
With this new local sports book, Cohen says fans of sports wagering will not have to travel to Baltimore or West Virginia to place bets on their favorite teams. “A number of OTB {off track betting} customers at Long Shots actually have to go to Charles Town during football season to go watch their favorite teams and bet on those teams. So for them, it’s going to be way more convenient,” she says.
Long Shots already offers off track betting for horse racing fans.
And there’s another benefit to having a sports book at a local establishment. “It’s a lot more fun to have your tax dollars benefit the local community,” she says. “We think it will be great for our current customers and also for people who aren’t familiar with horse racing or how OTB works. They’ll be able to experience that by coming to Long Shots Sports Book.”
In addition to Frederick County customers, Cohen says this new sports book could attract sports betting fans from Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
Long Shots is located inside of the Clarion Inn near the FSK Mall.
