Rockville Man Sentenced To Federal Prison For Transporting Child Pornography

Greenbelt, Md (KM) A Rockville man was sentenced on Wednesday in US District Court in Greenbelt for transportation of child pornography. Gregory Thomas Clement, 32, received nine years in federal prison followed by 15-years of supervised release. . After gets out of prison, Clement must register as a sex offender wherever he lives and works, and is a student.

The US Attorney’s Office for Maryland says the investigation into Clement began in May 20th, 2020 when US Homeland Security Investigations received information from an international law enforcement agency about an individual using an encrypted chat application to discuss a sexual interest in children. Clement was identified and taken into custody in Chicago on August 12th, 2020. as he was about to board a plane for Japan.

After being advised of his rights, Clement turned over his phone to HSI investigators who recovered images and videos of child pornography, including some depicting his sexual abuse of a minor victim.  His home was searched and investigators found electronic devices also containing images and videos of child pornography.

Federal prosecutors say the case was brought under Project Safe Childhood which is a nationwide initiative launched in May, 2006 to combat the growing instances of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
