Officer Involved Shooting At Motel In Frederick

 

Suspect in critical but stable condition

 

FREDERICK, Md. (August 2, 2024) – On Thursday Evening August 1, 2024, just before
midnight, Deputies were dispatched in attempt to locate a 45-year-old adult male
wanted on a Felony Warrant out of Beaver County Pennsylvania for Child Sexual
Assault and Abuse charges believed to be in the Frederick area. Deputies located
the vehicle associated with the wanted subject at the Super 8 motel located on
Monocacy Blvd in Frederick City. It was confirmed that the wanted subject was
registered at the hotel and a room was identified.
Verbal contact was made with the subject through the hotel room door, and he
indicated he was not coming out of his room and that he had a gun. A barricade
situation unfolded, and additional Sheriff’s Office and Frederick City Police units
arrived to assist.
At approximately 1250 am on August 2, 2024, the situation escalated to the point
shots were fired. The standoff ended with the wanted subject being shot and
wounded by law enforcement and then given immediate aide by on-scene deputies.
EMS personnel from the Frederick County Department of Fire and Rescue, already
staging at the scene, took over treatment of the subject who was then transported
to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit in Baltimore by a Maryland State
Police Helicopter where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Frederick City Police Officer with 8
years of service and a Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy with 8 years of service
discharged their assigned firearms during the incident conclusion.
Since members of the Frederick City Police and the Frederick County Sheriff’s
Office discharged their weapons during the incident, the Maryland State Police were
requested and will be handling the ongoing investigation.
Both the Frederick City Police Officer and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office
Deputy have been placed on Administrative Leave with pay pending the completion
of the incident investigation which follows established policy for both organizations.
No Law Enforcement personnel or other guests at the motel were injured during the
incident.
