Frederick County received a grant to pay for it.
Frederick, Md (KM) Some renovation work is planned for the County-owned Bell Court Apartments in Woodsboro. Frederick County has received a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the state for this project.
The county says the funds will be used to replace the air conditioning and heating units in each of the 28 apartments along with the community center. The money will also pay for the installation of accessible showers in each resident’s apartment, repair the sidewalks and replace the flooring in each of the apartments.
“Housing has been a top priority for my Administration, especially when it comes to our vulnerable seniors,” says County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, in a statement. “This grant will be used to make critical improvements to Bell Court Senior Apartments, helping ensure a high quality of life for residents who are aging in place.”
The Bell Court Apartments are occupied by very low income seniors who earn less than 30 percent of the area’s median income. They are one bedroom, single story, townhouse style units which have rents that do not exceed 40 percent of income.
The apartments were constructed in 1996 through the Maryland Partnership Housing Program. The Frederick County Division of Housing manages the apartments, the community center and the residents;’ association.
