Frederick, Md (KM) A thunderstorm came through Frederick County late Thursday afternoon bringing heavy rains, flooded roads, stranded vehicles and downed wires, mostly in the Frederick city area.

In one incident, there was a sinking vehicle in the 5600 block of Urbana Pike near the FSK Mall. The Frederick Scanner Facebook page says responding personnel found a single occupant in a vehicle in the middle of rapidly rising water. The one person in the vehicle said they could swim, but 911 dispatchers told that person to stay in place until help arrives. Fire fighters were able to safely remove the individual from the vehicle.

There was also a vehicle stranded in floodwaters on South Wisner Street at Southside Tire and Auto, and in the 7500 block of Guilford Drive near the Frederick Crossing shopping center. There were also flooding conditions in the 400 block of East Church Street near the Ox Fibre Apartments.

Fire and rescue also responded to the 3300 block of Flint Hill Road for a house fire. They arrived and saw smoke coming from the roof, and asked for a Rapid Intervention Dispatch which brought in more fire fighters. They searched the house, and found fire in the attic. They had the flames under control within ten minutes.

No injuries were reported from any of these incidents. .
