Frederick Police Charge Man In Shooting Incident Early Saturday Morning

Two people suffered gunshot wounds.

Frederick, Md (KM) A suspect in a shooting early Saturday morning in Frederick has been charged. Police say Darryl Lee Cooke, Jr., 29, was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder and other offenses. Cooke is currently being held without bond.

Authorities say at around 1:50 AM , officers on patrol in the area of East Church and Market Streets heard gunfire. They went to the intersection where they found two persons with gunshot wounds. They were transported to area hospitals where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Because the suspect was nearby, police say they were able to take Cooke into custody without incident.

Authorities  say an initial investigation determined the shooting resulted following an altercation between the victims and the suspect.

Police Chief Jason Lando gave praise to the officers’ response. “After reviewing the body camera footage, I was truly impressed by the quick and decisive actions of our officers. While patrolling the downtown district, they heard gunfire and immediately began pursuing the suspect on foot. Thanks to their action, the suspect was apprehended without further incident, and a firearm as recovered. At the same time, other officers rendered critical first aid to the victims until EMS arrived. Their immediate intervention undoubtedly saved lives and prevented what could have been a far worse outcome.”
