Hagerstown Police Release Identity Of Shots-Fired Suspect

He’s currently in jail without bond.

Hagerstown, Md (KM) The identity of the suspect arrested on Tuesday for a shots-fired incident in Hagerstown has been released. . Police say it’s John Michael Matthews-Hackett, 20, of Hagerstown. He is charged with attempted 1st-degree murder, and attempted 2nd-degree murder, 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment and numerous handgun violations. He’s being held on a no-bond status.

Authorities say at around 11:15 AM on Tuesday, officers responded to the parking lot of the Seven Star Mini-Mart on West Franklin Street  for a report of shots fired. They learned that two women got into an altercation with the driver of a Toyota Camry The driver struck the two women with the bumper of his vehicle, and drove away. The two women did not require medical attention.

Matthews-Hackett was nearby, and police say he pulled out a handgun and fired one shot at the Camry.  He fled the scene on foot.  Police arrested Matthews-Hackett in the 100 block of North Potomac Street at around 2:00 PM on Tuesday.

Mathews-Hackett and the two women were not known to each other at the time of this incident.

The investigation continues as it relates to the driver of the striking vehicle, Hagerstown Police say. .
