The State’s Attorney’s Office says Sheriff’s Office detectives began an investigation into child sexual abuse in 2016, but due to the age of the victim, the investigation was suspended. It was resumed in 2021.
Authorities say their investigation revealed the child was sexually abused by Sleets when the victim was three years old.
“We have to remain steadfast in protecting vulnerable victims, especially our children,” says Frederick County State’s Attorney Charlie Smith, in a statement. “Chief ASA {Lindsay} Carpenter was able to overcome obstacles in this case to gain justice for the victim. This, yet again, shows my Office’s commitment to making our community a safe place to live and work.”
