Va. Man On Trial In Frederick County, Md. Circuit Court

He is charged with numerous offenses, including attempted 1st degree murder.

Frederick, Md (KM) A Madison Heights, Virginia man is on trial this week in Frederick County Circuit Court. David Clayton Hanson, 34, is charged with attempted 1st-degree murder, 1st-degree assault, 2nd degree assault, and numerous firearms offenses.

He was arrested in November, 2021 for pointing a gun at a woman who sitting in her car speaking to an acquaintance in the 400 block of East Patrick Street in Frederick. Police say Hanson came around from the back of the vehicle with a handgun. He racked the side, pulled the trigger, but the weapon  did not fire, according to authorities.

Hanson then allegedly aimed his gun at s  witness who  called him  out, but he did not fire, according to police.

He then ran away on foot with the witness following him. Authorities say Hanson threw an object into a creek, and then fled into the Lucas Village community. Officers say they found the handgun in the creek. Hanson was taken into custody nearby.

The State’s Attorney’s Office says on Monday, jury selection took place, and prosecution and defense attorneys gave their opening statements. One witness was called to the stand. The trial resumes on Tuesday.
