Frederick, MD – Frederick police have made a significant breakthrough in addressing a rise in vehicle tampering and thefts across the area.
Authorities identified and arrested 31-year-old Kenneth Wims, the primary suspect behind the recent surge in theft-from-vehicle cases. Wims was already under investigation when officers responded to a trespassing and panhandling complaint. Officers acted swiftly, taking Wims into custody at the scene.
Wims now faces charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct, and possession of controlled substances and paraphernalia.
Following discussions with residents, police connected Wims to additional theft reports in the Rock Creek Estates and Stonegate neighborhoods. A deeper investigation uncovered evidence tying Wims to multiple thefts, resulting in 25 additional charges.
In 2016, Wims was arrested by Frederick Police for vehicle theft involving a moped.
Wims is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center as police continue to build their case.
