City Of Frederick To Provide Drop Off SItes To Recycle Live Christmas Trees

The trees will be ground into mulch.

Frederick, Md (KM) There’s new life for your Christmas tree after the Holiday celebrations are over.

The City of Frederick will have four recycling drop off centers for  live trees. They will be located at Harry Grove Stadium lower parking lot at 21 Stadium Drive;  Husky Park (Yard 2) at 530 Highland Street; Tasker’s Chance (the parking lot behind the Westridge Shopping Center), 100 Key Parkway; and Max Kehne Park parking lot at 1100 West 7th Street..

These sites will be open from Thursday, December 26th through Friday, January 31st.

Residents should remove any ornaments, garland, lights, tinsel, and tree stands.

These trees will be ground into mulch.

The City says the mulch is used for soil temperature moderation; moisture and water retention; reduction of competition from weeds; recycling of nutrients through decomposition; and it  conserves funds through a reduction in the amount of mulch purchased by the City.

Officials  say dropping off live Christmas trees to be ground into mulch also  conserves landfill space.
