Frederick County Health Dept. Looking Owner Of Dog That Bit A Child.

The dog bit the child near Tusvcarora Elementary School. Wednesday morning.

Frederick, Md.  (KM) The Frederick County Health Department is seeking the owner of a dog which bit a child near Tuscarora Elementary School on Wednesday morning. Officials say the child was riding their scooter across the crosswalk near the school when the dog bit them on the arm.

The canine is described as a medium sized, short-haired black dog with floppy ears. The owner is described as a short, older woman with braids who was walking the dog at the time of the bite.

The Health Department says it needs to locate the owner to learn about the dog’s health so it can be placed in quarantine, which can take place at the owner’s home. If at ten days after the bite, the dog is in good health, it can resume its normal activities, and the victim will avoid unnecessary and expensive rabies shots.

If you see that dog, or have more information, you can call Animal Control at 301-600-1544.

If you or a family member are bitten or scratched by a dog or a cat, the Frederick County Health Department says you should obtain contact information from  the owner so that appropriate action can be taken.

The Health Department says report animal bites to Frederick County Animal Control at 301-600-1544. To report any possible exposures to rabies, contact the Community Health Services at 301-600-3342.
