Montgomery County Police Investigating Home Invasion by Suspect Posing as Officer

Suspect knocked on homeowners door, flashed a badge and falsely identified himself as a police officer.

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed home invasion involving a suspect impersonating a law enforcement officer.

At approximately 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, officers responded to the 200 block of Hannes Street for the report of a home invasion. The victim reported hearing a knock at the door and, when they opened the door, the adult male suspect entered the apartment, produced a badge from inside his jacket, and falsely identified himself as a police officer.

The suspect, who was reported to be carrying a black handgun, allegedly demanded money and threatened the victim before leaving the residence.

Fourth District officers conducted a neighborhood canvass and issued a lookout for the suspect, but he was not located.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 45 to 50-years-old, 5- feet, 9-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall, with a stocky build, salt-and-pepper hair, and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black surgical mask, a black jacket, dark jeans, and a striped button-down shirt.
