Frederick Man Sentenced to 17 Years For Armed Robbery

Police say he used pepper spray on a mother and her child.

Frederick, Md (KM) Sentence was handed down on Tuesday to a Frederick man for armed robbery.   In Frederick County Circuit Court, Nicholas Albanes, 43, was given  20 years imprisonment with all but 17 years suspended. He will be placed on three-years supervised release when he gets out of prison.

The Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office says on May 10th, 2023, Frederick Police responded to Hillcrest Drive and Lancaster Place for a possible attempted abduction. Officers were told that the victim and her eight-year-old daughter were walking along Hillcrest Drive when she noticed a car parked along the shoulder. Albanes got out and tried to grab the victim’s daughter,  but the girl’s mother held on. He also tried to grab the woman’s purse.  The victim also told police that Albanes made a second attempt to grab her daughter. . The victim screamed. Albanes used pepper spray on both victims before driving away.

Police later apprehended Albanes.

In pronouncing sentence, Circuit Court Judge Julie Minner told the defendant: “I am sympathetic to your addictions, however, you maced a little girl and her mother.  I must assure the community’s safety.”

The defendant was charged with several offenses, including attempted kidnapping and assault, but pleaded guilty in January to armed robbery.
