New Student Member Elected To Frederick County Board Of Education

Frederick, Md (KM) There will be a new student member of the Frederick County Board of Education later this year. Linganore High School Junior Alex Thomas was elected to the post. He takes over the position on July 1st, 2025. But in the meantime, Thomas will shadow current Board of Ed Student member Elijah Steele from Governor Thomas Johnson High School.

Thomas was elected as student School Board member in January, 2025, by middle and high school students. The election was finalized on February 19th after delegates from each middle and high school cast their votes during the Frederick County Association of Student Councils General Assembly. .

Thomas is the President of the Linganore High School Class of 2026 and leads in planning events and fundraisers. He’s also active with the Frederick County Association of Student Councils, and the Maryland Association of Students Councils.

Outside of school, Thomas volunteers with Rebuilding Together Frederick County, the Libertytown Lions Club and the Boys Scouts of America.

The Student Board of Education member brings the students’ perspective to the School Board, FCPS officials say.
