FREDERICK, MD – On February 25, 2025, Deputies from the Narcotics Investigations Section of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), in collaboration with the Frederick City Police Department, executed a search warrant at a home in the 800 block of Motter Avenue in Frederick, MD. This operation was part of an ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession in the community.
As a result of the investigation and operation, FCSO detectives arrested Ezra Malik Smith, age 24, of Frederick, MD. Smith was found to have a loaded handgun and narcotics concealed on his person at the time of his arrest. Additionally, two more firearms, two high-capacity drum-style magazines, three extended magazines, and suspected cocaine were located inside his residence.
Smith was arrested and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he faces multiple drug and firearms-related charges, including:
- CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute (Felony)
- CDS Possession – Not Cannabis (Misdemeanor)
- CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone (Felony)
- Firearm Use in a Felony-Violent Crime (Misdemeanor)
- Firearm Possession – Crime of Violence/Felony Conviction (Felony)
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition (Misdemeanor)
- Regulated Firearm: Illegal Possession (Misdemeanor)
- Firearm/Drug Trafficking Crime (Felony)
- CDS Distribution, etc., with Firearm (Felony)
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is a member of the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) group. The Frederick HIDTA group includes personnel from Homeland Security Investigations, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick City Police, and the Maryland State Police. Assistance was also provided by the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office.
