Four-Year Cohort Graduation Rate Increases In Frederick County For 2024

The county’s dropout remains the lowest in Maryland.

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick County Public Schools says its four-year cohort graduation rate continues to be one of the highest in Maryland.  For the class of 2024, the high school graduation rate increased by 1 percent to  94.3 percent.. FCPS says that’s almost seven percentage points higher than the state’s overall graduation rate, and it’s number one among school systems with over 30,000 students. It’s also consistently above the national average, the School System says.

“Every student who walks across the graduation stage represents dedication of their families, our educators and community,” says FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Dyson, in a statement. “We remain committed to ensuring all students have the resources and support needed to reach this milestone and succeed beyond it.”

The School System says the four-year adjusted graduation rate improved for certain students.  Those with disabilities saw their graduation rates increase by 6 percent. The graduation rate for Hispanic/Latino students went up 4 percent. Multilingual students saw their graduation rate go up by 3.5 percent. .And kids who receive free and reduced price meals experienced an increase in their graduation rate  by 2.2 percent..

Frederick County Public Schools says its overall, four-year, dropout rate declined by 1 percent to 2.2 percent. The dropout rate for the local public school system remains the lowest in the state. Maryland’s drop out rate is 8.3 percent.

Officials with FCPS says cohort  graduation and dropout rates follow a group of students from freshmen year through their senior year.
