Frederick, Md (KM) It’s looking more like a police department. That’s how Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando describes the progress being made in transforming the former William Donald Schaefer Building into a new home for the Frederick Police Department.

“We are pretty much on time,” the Chief says. “We have meetings every other week now that we’re getting down to the homestretch So there’s been a couple of very, very minor delays. Just some things that we’ve ordered that we’re waiting to come in.”

Chief Lando was a guest recently on WFMD’s “Morning News Express.” “Previously, we were looking at a May 15th opening. Right now, I think we’re looking right around the first week of June,” he says.

The former William Donald Schaefer Building at 100 East All Saints Street was purchased by the city in 2021, and has been under development since then.  It’s a four-story, 65,000 square-foot building.

Chief Lando says he has toured the building since renovation work began. “I remember when the process started. We walk into this empty shell and I couldn’t even envision what it would look like. And the now floors are down, they’re painting the walls, the office doors are on. So it’s really starting to look like home, and we’re very excited we’re in the home stretch,” he says.

This new home for the Frederick Police Department will replace the current cramped quarters at the County Court House.
