Frederick Health Hospital Sued Over Ransomware Attack

FHH has until May 9th to respond to the class-action lawsuit.

Frederick, Md. – Frederick Health Hospital is facing a lawsuit after a ransomware attack in January exposed sensitive patient information, including Social Security numbers and medical records.

The class-action lawsuit, filed on behalf of affected patients, claims the hospital failed to take adequate steps to protect private data and was slow to notify victims. According to court documents, the hospital did not offer identity theft protection services immediately after the breach.

According to the Frederick News-Post, the suit alleges that Frederick Health ignored known cybersecurity threats, putting thousands of patients at risk for identity theft and fraud.

While the hospital has since sent letters to those affected and is now offering credit monitoring, some say it’s too little, too late.

Frederick Health has until May 9 to respond to the complaint. The lawsuit seeks more than $100,000 in damages.
