Frederick, Md (KM) Starting this Sunday, August 1st, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin work on two projects on Route 17 in Frederick County.

Crews will repair potholes and resurface both sections of the Route 17 (Burkittsville Rd) bridge over the Potomac River between the Maryland Avenue roundabout in Brunswick to the Virginia state line, a distance of about a half mile. That project is expected to be completed in one week.

Also on Sunday, repair work on potholes and improving the roadway surface will take place along Route 17 between the Route 180 (Jefferson Pike) roundabout and  East Mountain Road, including the bridge over Route 340 near Brunswick. That patching project is expected to take two weeks.

Crews will be working Sunday through Thursday on both  projects from 8:00 PM until 5:00 AM the following the day.

SHA says the project will require single lane closures with a flagging operation. The contractor, Charles J. Miller, LLC, will use electronic signs, cones and barrels to alert drivers about the work zone and lane closures.
