It will allow Frederick County to complete work on a new I-70 ramp.
Frederick, Md. (KM) – If you normally drive along Old National Pike near Interstate 70 and Meadow Road, here’s a heads-up. The Maryland State Highway Administration says 100 feet of westbound Md. 144 between the area prior to the I-70 overpass and Meadow Road will be closed starting on Wednesday, , February 16th. Spokeswoman Sherry Christian says this will allow Frederick County to complete work on a new eastbound ramp to I-70.
She says the project is a partnership between SHA, Frederick County, and Elm Street Development. “State Highway Administration completed a planning study, reviewed the plan, issued the permit and is providing inspection services for the project,” says Christian.
Md. 144 in that area is expected to be closed through March, according to Christian. Traffic will be detoured. “We know that there are going to be turns in between. Folks will want to take those. But the detour is the safest route and we’d like people to stay on it if at all possible,” she says.
The contractor hired by the county, Kinsley Construction, will be setting up cones, electronic signs and barrels to alert motorists to the road closure and the detour.
Christian says traffic on I-70 will not be affected.
