The person who was shot is facing additional charges.
Frederick, Md. (KM) – The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the deputy in an officer-involved shooting last Friday. He’s Deputy 1st Class Christian Lucente, whose a five-year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. But Sheriff Chuck Jenkins says in a statement that Deputy Lucente is “very confident” in his decision tor use deadly force in this situation. “He was not injured and is in a good state of mind,” Jenkins says.
“Deputy Lucente is fully cooperating with all aspects of the investigation, and I have complete confidence that his decision to use deadly force will be determined to be justified after being fired on by the defendant,” the Sheriff continues. “I am confident that he will be returned to duty in a short period of tim.
The person who was shot, Lookman-Khalil Abolajo Bello of Hagerstown, 28, is facing additional charges of 1st- and 2nd-degree assault, several firearms offenses and an eluding an officer. He’s also wanted on active warrants from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office for child support and failure to appear in court for driving on a suspended license. . Bello has an active warrant from Frederick Police for failure to appear in court for driving on a suspended license; and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for child support. .
The shooting occurred early Friday morning in the Kingsbrook Community after the deputy tried to stop Bello for speeding and possibly driving under the influence along Interstate 270. The Sheriff’s Office says Bello stopped his car in the Kingsbrook Community, and fled on foot. He fired a gun at Deputy Luncente who returned fire.
Bello was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
