Michael Hough said the state did not pass legislation to fight violent crime.
Annapolis, Md. (NS) – The 2022 Maryland General Assembly had some good and bad moments.
That’s according to State Senator Michael Hough who said there were positive takeaways from the passed budget.
“The budget overall was very much positive. Millions of dollars are coming back for infrastructure projects and a lot of our municipalities, so for example Brunswick is going to receive a couple million dollars to help with infrastructure needs, we got money for the City of Frederick for their police headquarters,” explained Hough.
He said another positive takeaway was a bill to help retirees through reduced income taxes.
Hough, who is running for Frederick County Executive, said the General Assembly failed to deal with crime.
“Senate sent over legislation to go after criminals who field firearms or use them in drug deals and again that legislation failed to pass. The House refused to pick it up so I think dealing with the issue of violent crime, the Maryland General Assembly really failed, specifically the Maryland House, but that was a real failure,” said Hough.
A bill to increase the pay for the Frederick County Sheriff was also turned down.
