The School Board will formally hire this person during a Tues. afternoon meeting.
Frederick, Md. (KM) – A new superintendent for Frederick County Public Schools will be named next week. The Board of Education has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday at 3:00 PM to formally appoint the individual who will take over that job, and vote on that person’s contract.
In its background material, the School Board says its search for a new superintendent in December, 2021, following the departure of Dr. Theresa Alban. She retired after a report was released by the US Department of Justice describing widespread restraint and seclusion by the School System against students with disabilities. Dr. Michael Markoe has been serving as Interim Superintendent since that time.
The School Board hired Hazard, Young Attea & Association to conduct the search. On February 16th, the Board of Ed met with Consultant Brad Draeger to discuss a timeline. The vacancy was advertised beginning on February 16th, 2022.
The Board of Education says it held many virtual meetings with FCPS employees and students to develop a leadership profile. An online survey was held form February 23rd to March 4th.
On April 6th, the School Board says it met with its Consultant and was presented with a list of 18 candidates. At that time interview questions were developed.
According to the background material, the Board of Ed met in administrative function and conducted interviews with five of the 18 candidates for the job. During deliberations on April 14th, the Board chose a candidate for Superintendent.
The person who his hired for the position will begin on July 1st, 2022.
