Dr. Cheryl Dyson will start on July 1st, 2022.
Frederick, Md. (KM) – The Frederick County Board of Education on Tuesday appointed Doctor Cheryl Dyson as the next superintendent of schools. She has been an educator since 1999, and currently serves as an area associate superintendent for Montgomery County Public Schools.
“I am deeply humbled and grateful for the opportunity to join the FCPS family,” Dr. Dyson said in a statement. “Together, we are going to build on educational successes FCPS is known for and continue to make great things happen for all of our students.”
Dr. Dyson takes over on July 1st, .replacing Doctor Mike Markoe who has been serving as interim superintendent since Dr. Theresa Alban retired following a controversy over the use of seclusion and restraint against special education students.
As part of its decision, the School Board also approved a four-year contract for Doctor Dyson.
