One couple won $1-million.
Baltimore, Md. (KM) – A Frederick Couple are the state’s newest millionaires. The Maryland Lottery says the couple won the cash by purchasing a Show Me $1-million ticket last week at Festival Major Liquors at 446 Prospect Street in Frederick.
“Someone who told us they were a recent cancer survivor and were very glad to claim the prize”: says Seth Elkin, Assistant Director of Communications for Public Affairs with Maryland Lottery and Gaming. “They’d beaten cancer and now they have a $1-million prize to celebrate on top of that.
He says the couple wishes to remain anonymous. “We want for people to go public and have us be able to tell their stories with their names and their photos. But that is definitely the winner’s choice and a lot of people certainly value that option.”
On Sunday, there was a $300,000 winner who purchased six, Bonus Match Five tickets at East Side Liquor in Frederick. “Somebody–we assume one person in Frederick–who purchased six different tickets that won the top prize in the Bonus Match Five game. And the top prize there is $50,000,”: he says, noting that $50,000 times six is $300,000.
Elkin says that winner has not yet come forward as of Tuesday, July 5th.
During the week ending July 3rd, Maryland Lottery and Gaming says players across the state won $27.9 million in prizes.
Elkin says the Frederick County retailers who sold these winning tickets will get cash bonuses. “On the Scratch Off on the Show Me $1-million ticket, the retailer there, which was Festival Major Liquors on Prospect Street in Frederick, gets a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery” he says.
“On the Bonus Match Five tickets, the retailer there gets a $500 bonus for each of those top prizes,” Elkin continues. “So a $3,000 in bonus goes to the retailer there.” That retailer is East Side Liquor at 507 East Street in Frederick.
