The county ranked third overall for one of the healthiest in Maryland
Frederick, MD – (MO) Frederick County is one of the healthiest counties in Maryland according to the 2023 County health Rankings.
“Frederick County has ranked third highest in Maryland for health outcomes and health factors,” said Rissah Watkins, Director of the Frederick County Health Department’s Office of Planning, Assessment, and Communication.
The 2023 County Health Rankings was created after evaluating statistical data on various health related information and local socio-economic factors. The rankings consider behaviors like local tobacco use, diet and exercise, alcohol and drug use. The report also evaluates information on local education levels, income levels and community safety.
The report did identify smoking and obesity as areas of concern for Frederick County.
“It’s interesting that the report highlights smoking and obesity again because when you look at the data, we’re doing relatively well in them,” Watkins said. “Better than some of the surrounding counties but we know that we are not where we want to be.”
The rankings were published by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
