Frederick, Md. (BW)- The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is upping its efforts to protect vulnerable road users.
The SHA is looking for public feedback on ways to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable parties.
Vulnerable road users are considered to be anyone walking, cycling or rolling on or near a roadway.
An online survey is one way the SHA is obtaining public input. The survey is open until July 31.
Another way the SHA will receive input is through virtual forums for each region within the state. The virtual forums will take place via Microsoft Teams.
The Western Maryland and Howard County forum will take place Thursday, July 20 from 4-6 p.m.
Stakeholders and other interested parties will be invited to the forums, as well as anybody who completes the online survey. The link to the meeting will also be available on the SHA’s website home page.
The goal of these forums is to develop a Vulnerable Road User Safety Assessment, which is part of a Nationwide regulation developed by the Biden Administration. It is called the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Each state needs to complete the Assessment by November 15, 2023.
