Mount St. Mary’s Student Dies Following Apparent Skateboard Accident

He is remembered  fondly by the Mount community.

Emmitsburg, Md (KM) A Mount Saint Mary’s University Student died in an apparent skateboarding accident on Friday, September 1st.. Paul Keegan Jaravata passed away on Wednesday. University officials say..   He was a member of the Mount class of 2024.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says at midnight on September 1st, deputies were called to the 17500 block of Irishtown Road in Emmitsburg for a young man lying unconscious in the road next to a skateboard. Deputies say he was in and out of consciousness, and was medivaced to University Medical Center.

At first, deputies called to the scene were told by a passing motorist that the individual, later identified as Jaravata, may have been struck by a motor vehicle. But authorities says Javarata’s injuries were consistent with sustaining a hard fall after coming down a steep hill His body was found at the bottom of a steep hill on Irishtown Road.

A post on the Mount’s Facebook page say Javarata is remembered for his “wide-ranging interests, academic prowess, musical talent and zest for life.”

A Mount spokeswoman says Javarata was a psychology major.
