This follows a suit filed against the state following its passage by the General Assembly.
Annapolis, Md (KM) A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction against a new gun control law in Maryland which was scheduled to go into affect on Sunday,. Oct. 1st. This injunction temporarily blocks the implementation of this measure until the courts decide on the merits of the case.
This new law, passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Wes Moore, carries stricter restrictions on where citizens can possess a gun, even if they have a valid permit. Under this law, they cannot bring guns into a pre-school or pre-kindergarten facility, a private primary or secondary school; a youth camp; a health care facility; a location being used as a shelter for runaway youth; and numerous other locations.
The NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action sued the State of Maryland after the Governor signed the bill into law in May.
It was passed to conform with a 2022 US Supreme Court ruling which removed some restrictions a couple of states placed on handguns.
