National Weather Service forecasts over one inch of precipitation.
Frederick, Md (KM) Heavy rain and gusty winds are in the forecast for Sunday for the region.
AAA Mid-Atlantic reminds motorists not to drive through standing water because the water could be much deeper than it appears. The auto club says it’s best to turn around, don’t drown.
The auto club also says watch out for debris or down wires on the roads. If your vehicle comes into contact with a downed utility wire, it’s best to stay in your vehicle until help arrives.
If you have to drive on this weekend, AAA says avoid using cruise control, and watch out for hydroplaning. And be aware of changing wind conditions.
Always carry an emergency kit which should contain a fully charged cell phone and car charger; a first aid kit; blanket; flashlight with extra batteries; jumper cables; rags, paper towels or pre-moistened wipes; and water and snacks for everyone in the car including pets.
The City of Frederick is also reminding residents to take precautions. That includes taking steps to avoid flooding on their properties. Before the precipitation hits, officials say citizens should clean out storm drain inlets, secure outdoor items and moved parked vehicles.
