Frederick, Md. (From the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office)- “At approximately 4:58 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Frederick County Emergency Communications Center dispatched a call for a reported building fire with possible entrapment in the 400 block of East Patrick Street. Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue units arrived to find a 3-story building with smoke showing and quickly requested a Rapid Intervention Dispatch. Crews began working immediately to conduct a search within the building and rescued three occupants from the third floor of the structure. A second alarm was requested to bring more personnel and resources to the scene to assist. Additional arriving units assisted in completing the search and rescue as well as locating and extinguishing the fire. The building was comprised of a large, vacant house occupied by transient personnel. DFRS personnel rescued three adults, with one person transported to Frederick Health Hospital for minor injuries and two personnel left the scene on their own, without receiving care. Additional resources, including transit buses for sheltering in place, were called in to assist DFRS.
It took 75 firefighters, with 27 pieces of fire apparatus, approximately 27 minutes to extinguish the fire and crews will remain on the scene for the next few hours to mop up hot spots and assist with the investigation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office.
This portion of East Patrick Street will be closed for several hours.
