Frederick, Md. (BW)- Weather officials say the Mid-Maryland region could receive up to 10 inches of snow on Saturday, Jan 6 and Sunday, Jan 7.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Bryan Bittenmaster provided tips for motorists when driving in inclement winter weather.
“Do not go out if you don’t have to,” Bittenmaster said.
He suggested eating at home rather than going out for food, as well as moving meetings and conversations to a virtual platform.
Bittenmaster said if someone does need to drive, however, plan ahead. He suggested listening closely to local media for forecasts and traffic delays.
He also said drivers can plan ahead by checking vehicle maintenance like tire pressure and gas.
He also suggested preparing a car emergency kit consisting of food, water, a blanket and emergency warning devices such as flares or reflective triangles.
If stuck, stay in your vehicle and expect a longer-than-usual response time from emergency vehicles.
Lastly, If driving near a snow plow, Bittenmaster said to be extra cautious and DON’T attempt to pass them.
