He’s being charged as an adult.

Brunswick, Md (KM) A suspect has been arrested for a murder in Brunswick earlier this year. Juwaun Terry Stewart, 17, of Brunswick is charged as an adult with the January 17th death of Tammy Sue Coates, 61. Stewart had been in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services on a separate offense since shortly after the investigation into Coates’ death began.
Police say on January 22nd, 2024, they responded to a home in the 300 block of Ninth Avenue for a cardiac arrest. Coates’ daughter told officers she found her mother deceased inside the home. Authorities say the death appeared suspicious, and an investigation began.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy, and ruled the death a homicide. Detectives say the victim had multiple injuries, and there was evidence of a sexual assault.
Based on DNA evidence, Brunswick Police have charged Stewart with 1st-degree murder, 1st-degree rape, 1st-degree assault, 1st-degree burglary, home invasion and felony theft.
