Callers are contacting people claiming to be actual Sheriff’s Office employees.
Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says it has received calls from citizens about individuals calling their homes, claiming to be actual employees of the Sheriff’s Office. They tell the people they’ve contacted that they have several warrants and some court paperwork that needs to be satisfied. These callers also tell the people they’ve contacted if they provide funds, these issues can be resolved without going to court, or stopping by the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says this is a scam, and no law enforcement agency would ever solicit funds to satisfy a warrant or court paperwork
Authorities say don’t provide these individuals with any credit card numbers, banking information or any personal identification. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately, and call the Sheriff’s Office or other local law enforcement agencies and report it.
