The Shooting left the officer paralyzed.
Gaithersburg, Md (KM) The man who shot and paralyzed a Montgomery County Police Officer more than 20 years ago will not be getting out of prison. The Maryland Parole Commission has denied parole for Terrance Green. He was sentenced to life behind bars plus 20 years for shooting Officer Kyle Olinger.
Police say Olinger was shot in the neck during a traffic stop in Silver Spring on August 13th, 2003. The bullet severed his spinal cord, and left him paralyzed from the chest down.
But Montgomery County Police say Officer Olinger served as an inspiration and testament to resilience until he died on April 18th, 2019
During a parole hearing, Police Chief Marcus Jones said Green should not be given parole. . “The crime he committed against the late POIII Kyle Olinger was so destructive that Greene should serve out the remainder of his sentence. Green’s actions resulted not only in Officer Olinger’s death but resulted in 15 years of torment suffered by Officer Olinger and his family,” Jones said.
In a statement, the Montgomery County Police Department says it supports the decision of the Maryland Parole Commission, and remains committed to honoring Officer Olinger’s memory and sacrifice.
