He was convicted of attempted 1st-degree murder for shooting at a Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy

Frederick, Md (KM) A Hagerstown man is going to prison for a long time. In Frederick County Circuit Court on Wednesday, Lookman-Khalil Abolajo Bello, 31, was sentenced to life plus 15 years incarceration for attempted 1st-degree murder, several firearms offenses and fleeing police. Bello was convicted of those charges in a trial in February, 2024.
The State’s Attorney’s Office says Bello was arrested on March 18th, 2022. During the early morning hours, a deputy tried to get Bello to pull over on Interstate 270 near Route 85, but Bello refused to stop. . He was going 94 miles per hour .
Bello got off of the interstate and stopped his vehicle in the area of the Kingscrest Apartments. He fled on foot. The foot pursuit continued to Rooks Court where Bello then pulled out a handgun and fired on the pursuing deputy, DFC Christian Lucente. who returned fire, striking Bello. DFC Lucente administered emergency medical assistance to Bello. Other deputies arrived on the scene and also provided emergency medical treatment to Bello who was transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma
After he was released, Bello was take to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
“Our community needs to understand that police face the possibility of being shot at every day, and that we as prosecutors will hold those gunmen and violent offenders accountable. Bello was shown that he is a major threat to public safety and therefore should be removed from our community and incarcerated for a substantial period of time,” said State’s Attorney’s Charlie Smith, in a statement.
