Frederick, Md (KM) It’s “a terrible time for the country” is how Maryland’s GOP candidate for the US Senate, Larry Hogan,   describes  the attempted assassination of Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump. He was shot on Saturday during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The bullet grazed his ear. Trump has been released from the hospital.

During a stop in Frederick on Sunday, Hogan said the nation needs to come together. “Instead of a red team and blue team fighting with this kind of angry toxic politics that we can get back to red, white and blue and united America,” he said.

He also said he’s praying for Trump and his family. “We don’t know everything that happened yet, but it’s a terrible time for the country. So I’m really praying for the country that we can come together,,”  he continued.

Also responding was Democratic Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore, who said in a statement “political violence is unacceptable and  against what our country stands for.” “What happened today {Saturday} to {former} President Trump is abhorrent and should never be tolerated. Ever,” Moore said.

The Governor said he’s grateful for the actions of law enforcement “as we await more information and pray for former President Trump and his family.”

“Our nation is and must be better than this,”: Moore concluded in his statement.

At the campaign rally, one man who attended was killed, and two people were injured. The man who allegedly tried to assassinate Trump was shot an killed by Secret Service agents. He’s identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20.  of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

Law enforcement sources tell the news media that bomb-making materials were found in Crooks’ car and home.
