Frederick, Md (KM) The former two–term Republican Governor of Maryland has been campaigning across the state, trying to win the US Senate seat which is being vacated by incumbent Ben Cardin who is retiring.  So why is Larry Hogan Running? “Well, because I’m completely  fed up with politics as usual and I think Washington is completely broken,” he responded. :”I’m kind of concerned about the angry, divisive politics.”

With so much partisan division in Washington, Hogan was also asked how he can bring everyone together to try to solve problems. “I think I can be the guy in the middle of what happens down there, a lot like perhaps Joe Manchin or John McCain, somebody that’s going to be in the middle that is able to try to reach across the aisle, and convince some folks in the center to try to reach some common sense solutions,” he said.

Joe Manchin is a Democratic  US Senator from West Virginia. The late John McCain was a Republican Senator from Arizona.

If he’s elected Senator, Hogan also said he wants to do something about improving the economy. “Inflation out of control, the debt that keeps piling up , people are struggling to pay their bills, the housing crisis: there’s all kinds of economic issues I hope to address,” says Hogan.

“I want to do something about crime which seems to be out of control, particularly in our larger cities,” Hogan continues. “For example, the suburbs of Washington. Prince George’s County, Montgomery County skyrocketing. I think those are the kinds of things we want to address in Washington.”

He also says he’s better qualified to get things done. . “I thing most of the people in Maryland know me, and they know that I’m guy who stands up for all Marylanders. That  I’ve been a bipartisan guy that reaches across the aisle to try to come up with common sense, bipartisan solutions. And I think that’s something desperately needed in Washington,” he says.

In the race for US Senator, Hogan is  facing Democrat Angela Alsobrooks, who’s Prince George’s County’s Executive. Without mentioning her name, Hogan says he’s still the best choice for Maryland. “With all due respect, my opponent is just going to another typical machine politician who follows the party bosses,” he says. “And I’m guy who’s willing stand up to the other party and my own party.”

Hogan visited Frederick County last weekend where he toured downtown Brunswick.

General election day is Tuesday, November 5th.
