The incident followed the annual Kris Kringle parade.
Frederick, Md (KM) Sentence was handed down on Wednesday to a man involved in a shootout in downtown Frederick in 2022 following the Kris Kringle Parade. David Gray, 33, was given 50 years in prison, with all but 20 years suspended, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. After he’s released, Gray will be put on five years of supervised probation.
He pleaded guilty on June 24th, 2024 to attempted 2nd-degree murder and the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime. .
On December 9th, 2022, at around 8:20 PM, police officers were dispatched to South Market Street near West All Saints Street for reports of gunfire following the Kris Kringle parade. . They learned Gray and Atu Abasi Adeyemi, 51, of Hagerstown got into a confrontation in that area. . It escalated into shots being fired by both men at each other.
Frederick Police Officer Corporal Daniel Sullivan, observed one of the suspects identified as Adeyemi flee the scene. The officer fired his service weapon at him. Adeyemi dropped his weapon and raised his hands in the area.
Frederick Police say they continued their investigation into this incident, and identified Gray as the second suspect. He was taken into custody on December 14th, 2022.
Adeyemi pleaded guilty on May 29th to 1st-degree assault and use a firearm in a felony crime of violence. He was sentenced on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 to 30 years in prison with all but five years suspended; and he will be put on five years supervised probation after he’s released from prison.
The Montgomery County Police Department handled the investigation into the shooting by Corporal Sullivan. The Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute after the investigation was completed.
