He is expected to be sentenced in November.
Washington DC (KM) Sentencing is scheduled for November 22nd, 2024 for a Montgomery County Police Officer who was convicted for his role in the storming of the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021. The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia says Justin Lee, 25, of Rockville was found guilty on Friday of assaulting, resisting and impeding officers and civil disorder. He was also found guilty of misdemeanor offenses including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, and disorderly and disruptive conduct.
In a news release, the US Attorney’s Office for Washington DC says in documents and evidence presented at trial, Lee was identified by law enforcement as present among a crowd of rioters at the exterior of Archway leading to the Lower West Terrace Exterior Door of the Capitol, often referred to as the “Tunnel.” That was the site of some of the most violent attacks against law enforcement on January 6th, 2021.
Federal prosecutors say Lee was with a crowd of people in the West Terrace trying to push their way past Capital and DC Police Officers. .The officers were there to prevent the rioters from entering.
Open-source video showed Lee throwing a unlit smoking or sparking object at police officers. Prosecutors say the object thrown by Lee produced a billowing smoke cloud as other rioters attempted to push against police officers, who were there to prevent their entry into the building.
Congress was in session at that time to ascertain and count the electoral votes from the 2020 general election.
In a statement, Montgomery County Police say Lee was not a part of the department during the storming of the Capitol. Because of his conviction, the department says Lee is no longer with the Montgomery County Police.
