Woman Who Failed To Show Up For Her Trial On Child Abuse Charges Located in Georgia

She’s awaiting extradition back to Maryland.

Hagerstown, Md (KM) A woman who failed to show up for her trial earlier this year on child abuse charges which led to the death of her infant daughter three years ago has been located. Hagerstown Police say authorities in South Fulton, Georgia arrested Ashley Franklin, 37, on Friday, August 23rd. She was wanted for failure to appear in court in March, 2024.

Franklin is charged with 1st-degree child abuse under the age of 13, 1st-degree child abuse leading to severe physical injury, involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a minor.

She is currently awaiting extradition back to Maryland.

Franklin, and child’s father, William Antonio Conyers of Hagerstown, were indicted in October, 2021 for the death of the ten-month-old girl.

In April, 2021, Hagerstown Police responded to the 300 block of South Mulberry Street for reports of an unresponsive infant. The child was taken to Meritus Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation began which took several months to complete. . The Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death was “complications of malnutrition and neglect.” The manner of death was determined to be homicide.

Franklin was arrested in October, 2021 for the baby’s death.

When she failed to show up for her trial in March, 2024,. a bench warrant was issued by a Washington County Circuit Court Judge.
