Frederick, Md (KM) The new Frederick City Council is taking shape. On Tuesday night, Katie Nash was chosen as the Council President; Derek Shackleford was picked as Council Vice President. The two say they will work collaboratively to advance the City’s legislative priorities, and make sure that city government is efficient and responsive to citizens’ needs.
Nash commented on being elected as President. “I’m proud to share this historic moment with my colleagues and am excited to get started working in this new role as we build the legislative branch of our government,” she said in a statement.
Shackelford says he’s enthusiastic about his new position. “I am honored to be selected by my colleagues to serve as City Council Vice President alongside President Katie Nash. As this transition takes place, I look forward to working together for an efficient government that will serve all our residents,” he said in a statement.
The City Council will eventually consist of five members elected from districts, and two elected at large. It replaces the Board of Aldermen.
