Frederick, Md (KM) Six people were arrested and drugs and a handgun were confiscated during a traffic stop in Frederick County Thursday night.

The Sheriff’s Office says deputies taking part in a pro-active criminal interdiction noticed a Volkswagen Routan traveling along westbound Interstate 70 near Monocacy Boulevard. It was pulled over for moving and equipment violations.

Deputies say they saw drug paraphernalia in plain view and began a search. They recovered a loaded, 45-caliber handgun, about 264 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 100 grams of suspected heroin and other paraphernalia.

The six occupants were taken into custody. They are

“Looking at the addresses of those arrested is a clear indication of ongoing illegal drug activity routed through Frederick County between Baltimore and western Maryland,” says Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, in a statement. “Interstate 70 has long been an established pipeline for intra-state trafficking. The armed individuals involved in the transport of illegal drugs only heighten the threat to law enforcement and the public. Interdiction efforts like this continue to be effective in attacking the drug trafficking problem.”
