The American Red Cross is always in need of all blood types.
FREDERICK, MD. (LG) The American Red Cross is always in need of blood donations. “As the holiday celebrations continue in December, The American Red Cross strongly encourages donors to keep the blood supply at the top of your mind, by giving blood or platelets this month,” said Christina Sledge, Board Member for Montgomery, Howard and Frederick County chapters.
All blood types are needed. ” Our blood supply is currently stable, however, eligible donors like those with type O- negative blood, and those giving platelets are especially urged to donate, so patients can continue to receive the blood they need, ” added Sledge.
According to the website of the local Red Cross Chapter, the blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average.
There are a few eligibility requirements:
- Donation frequency: Every 56 days, up to 6 times a year*
- You must be in good health and feeling well**
- You must be at least 16 years old in most states
- You must weigh at least 110 pounds.
