Frederick Police Chief Hoping To Establish A Traffic Unit In The Department

He says he also is looking at purchasing noise cameras for the city.

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick is a growing city, and the biggest problem it faces is traffic, according to Police Jason Lando. “In a lot of cities, their number-one issue is violent crime. So in that respect, we’re pretty lucky here. But our number-one issue is traffic.  That said, we want to address that,” he said

During a recent appearance on WFMD’s “Morning News Express,” Chief Lando said one of his long term goals is to  establish a full-time traffic unit with a supervisor and several officers. But because of the department’s staffing situation, Lando says that will take place little-by-little over the years. “So right now we have Officer Andrew Cody who is very passionate about traffic enforcement and he’s kind of our first full time traffic officer and he’s coordinated some of these things,” says Chief Lando.

On a similar topic, the Chief says he’s looking at purchasing a noise camera for the city of Frederick to help with enforcing the noise ordinance when it comes to vehicle noises such as loud exhaust systems, and drivers playing music very loud.   “They actually have cameras now that are noise cameras,” he says. ” You can put them in certain areas. And if we have a car that’s blasting music, we can identify that car. It will measure the decibels and we can issue citations that way.”

Chief Lando says the department won’t rushing out to buy these cameras. “Some other police agencies have implemented that.  And we just kind of want to press pause and see how that goes to make sure it actually works and it’s meaningful before we make that type of investment,” he says.
