They would work on general election day, Nov. 8th.
Frederick, Md (KM) If you have some free time on general election day, you might want to consider being an election judge. Frederick County Election Director Stuart Harvey says more people are needed to work at the polls on November 8th. He says the county usually hires about 900 people as election judges. “We’re a little short right now. So we certainly do need help at the polling places on November 8th,” says Harvey.
Anyone who wants to work as an election judge should be at least 17 years of age, be able to read, write and speak the English language, and, while acting as a judge, must not hold or be a candidate for public office or a party office.
Harvey says training is provided for election judges. “They attend a two or three-hour training here at our office. The training is paid for,” he says. “Even if you’ve been a judge before, we’ve got a brand new voting system in Maryland this year so we do need to train everybody who wants to be a judge.”
If you’re interested, you need to visit the Board of Elections’ website at www.frederickcountymd.gov/elections, and click on the link to “Election Judge Questionnaire.” You can also e-mail the board at [email protected].
Harvey says most of the need for election judges is for the general election. “We’re in a little better shape for early voting. But, of course, if someone is interested in assisting at early voting, we would certainly talk to them about that,” he says.
Early voting takes place from October 27th through November 3rd.
