Frederick Man Sentenced For Stabbing Wife

He’ll also be on probation after he’s released.

Frederick, Md (KM). Sentencing was handed down on Wednesday to a Frederick man who stabbed his wife. Divad Antonio Wright, 21, was given 35 years in prison, with all but nine-years suspended. He’ll also be put on five-years supervised probation after he’s released, and must have no contact with the victim or her children.

Wright pleaded guilty in January to 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment and soliciting to intimidate a juror.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says in July, 2016, Wright took his children to his mother’s apartment on Willowdale Drive. He and his wife got into an argument, and it turned physical. “So Mr. Wright wound up striking her in the head, strangling her, drug her outside of the apartment, and came back into the apartment and grabbed a butcher’s knife, and returned to the victim,” he says.

Wright struck the victim with the knife, and cut her hand, causing a deep gash and a permanent injury. She was heard by a neighbor screaming “stop” and “don’t kill me.”

A neighbor heard the screaming, and came out, and stopped  what was going on, says Smith. Wright fled the scene, but was later apprehended by Frederick Police.

He was locked  up in the County Detention Center. During that time, Smith says Wright phoned his mother and asked her to get the victim to change her story.

“A long time for a 21-year-old, but it was a very serious  offense and we believe he deserved every minute of the time he spends in jail for this,” says Smith.
